10 AI Prompts Every Small Business Owner Should Use to Automate Marketing in 2026

Posted on September 9, 2026October 7, 2026 By MCNMMarketing

Running marketing for a small business used to mean choosing between hiring an agency you couldn’t quite afford or doing everything yourself at midnight. AI changes that math. With the right prompts, a single founder or a two-person marketing team can plan campaigns, draft copy, and analyze customers at a pace that used to require a much bigger headcount. Below are ten practical prompts small business owners can adapt for their own marketing work in 2026, along with tips for getting useful results instead of generic filler.

Why AI Prompts Matter for Small Business Marketing

The gap between a well-crafted prompt and a lazy one is often the difference between usable marketing copy and something you’ll rewrite from scratch anyway. Treating an AI model like a specific team member, such as a copywriter, a data analyst, or a social media strategist, instead of a generic search box tends to produce far better output. The ten prompts below are written so you can copy them, swap in your own business details, and get a draft worth editing into something ready to publish.

Checklist graphic listing 10 AI marketing prompts: weekly content calendar, customer persona, ad copy variations, email subject lines, competitor gap, review mining, local SEO blurb, objection handling, repurposing, and landing page diagnostic
The 10 prompts at a glance. Save it, then copy the full prompts below.

1. The Weekly Content Calendar Prompt

“Act as a content strategist for a [type of business] in [city or niche]. Build a 7-day social media content calendar for [platform], including a post idea, a hook, and a call to action for each day, based on this upcoming promotion: [describe promotion].”

2. The Customer Persona Prompt

“Based on these descriptions of my best customers: [paste details]. Build a single composite customer persona, including their main frustration, what convinces them to buy, and the words they would use to describe our product.”

3. The Ad Copy Variation Prompt

“Write eight short variations of an ad for [product], each testing a different angle: price, urgency, social proof, and a specific benefit. Keep each under 30 words.”

4. The Email Subject Line Prompt

“Generate 15 subject lines for an email announcing [offer], mixing curiosity, urgency, and direct-benefit styles. Flag the three you would A/B test first and explain why.”

5. The Competitor Gap Prompt

“Here is my homepage copy: [paste]. Here is a competitor’s homepage copy: [paste]. Identify three things they communicate better than I do and suggest specific rewrites for my page.”

6. The Review Mining Prompt

“Here are 20 customer reviews: [paste]. Summarize the three most common praises and three most common complaints, then turn each praise into a possible marketing headline.”

7. The Local SEO Blurb Prompt

“Write five versions of a 150-word business description for [business name] in [city], optimized for local search, each emphasizing a different value proposition.”

8. The Objection-Handling Prompt

“List the five objections a prospective customer might raise before buying [product or service], then write a one-sentence response to each that could be used in sales conversations or FAQ copy.”

9. The Repurposing Prompt

“Here is a blog post I published: [paste]. Rewrite it as four separate assets — a LinkedIn post, an Instagram caption, a 45-second video script with shot directions, and a short email to my list. Do not copy sentences between them; each should be written natively for its channel.”

10. The Landing Page Diagnostic Prompt

“Here is the copy from my landing page: [paste]. My goal is [phone calls / form fills / bookings]. Identify every point where a visitor would hesitate, rank them by how much they likely cost me, and rewrite the single worst offender.”

How to Get Output Worth Keeping

The prompts above are starting points, not magic words. Three habits separate people who get usable drafts from people who get filler.

  • Feed it your real material. Actual reviews, actual page copy, actual customer emails. A model given nothing specific will return something generic, every time.
  • Say what you are optimizing for. “Write an ad” gets you an ad. “Write an ad for a plumber in Henderson whose best customers are property managers, optimizing for phone calls” gets you something you can run.
  • Ask it to show its reasoning on anything you will publish. If it recommends a subject line, make it explain why. That is where you catch the recommendation that sounds confident and is wrong.

And check anything factual before it goes live. A model will produce a statistic, a price, or a legal detail with exactly the same confidence whether or not it is true. Marketing copy is low-stakes; a claim about tax, licensing, or a competitor is not.

' “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. '
